About Martinez, GA - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Situated in eastern Columbia County, Georgia, Martinez has an estimated population of more than 35,800 residents. The census-designated place is a northwestern suburb of the city of Augusta and part of its metropolitan area. It’s home to the head gates of the historic Augusta Canal, which was built back in 1845.

The town, though named after a Latino, is pronounced by the locals as “Martin-EZ” instead of in the traditional Spanish way. José Martínez y Saldiva, who was a wealthy and influential man from Cuba, founded the town of Martinez. He purchased a plantation in the area and named it El Cordero Ranch, meaning “The Lamb Ranch”.

He wished to join the American army but was turned down possibly because of his heritage. José Martínez y Saldiva ended up having four daughters who later were married off to wealthy men. As of now, El Cordero Ranch is only 20-acres in size with several barns, buildings, a water tower and his old home still standing today.

The Augusta Canal National Heritage Headgates Area offers kayakers and canoers easy access to the Savannah River and the canal. There are kayak rentals available for all skill levels by reservations whereas bike rentals, which are only available on weekends, allow you to ride the 7-mile long towpath leading to downtown Augusta.

Find out more about the history of the Augusta canal as well as other artifacts in the Columbia County Visitor’s Center.  Once you step out from the cottage, you will find the Savannah Rapids Pavilion, the BBQ pit circa 1880, the Dining Shed circa 1935 and not to mention, the renovated Dance Pavilion circa 1880, perfect for conferences and parties.

A few miles away from the head gates of the canal, you will come across Reed Creek Wetlands and Interpretative Center. It offers programs such as the Nurturing Nature Walk, the Wildness Survival Class and the Frog Call Survey. When it comes to education, six elementary schools, six middle schools and three high schools serve the students of Martinez.

Martinez receives 46 inches of rainfall and 0 inches of snowfall per year. With an average high of around 92 degrees in the summers, it’s important to have a good air conditioning system to lower the temperature in your home. Moreover, since the mercury drops as low as 38 degrees in the winters, you need a heat pump to maintain comfort in your home.
